My new kapa bojagi work, Pu’uhonua (Place of Refuge), will be on display in this exhibit curated and produced by Na Omi Shintani. This and other artist works explore the theme of refuge and its various interpretations, from personal experience as well as notions of safety and healing within community.

Shapes and Songs of Resilience and Resistance and You Are Loved and Belong will be on view at Brown Palms, Yellow Balms: Reinventing Caregivers of Color, an exhibition co-presented by Asian American Women Artists Association (AAWAA) & Asian Pacific Islander Cultural Center (APICC) for the 28th Annual United States of Asian America Festival.

Kintsugi Stitches: Mending broken pieces to become a stronger whole

In response to the killing of George Floyd, I used African textiles to honor the thousands of African American quilters and their beautiful textile art. Inspired by kintsugi, the Japanese art of repairing pottery with lacquer mixed with gold, I stitched “cracks” into the fabric remnants in recognition of both the brokenness and healing renewal which leads to a stronger and more beautiful vessel.
